About NAAB

Who we are...
Neil Armstrong Academic Boosters (NAAB) is a volunteer NON-PROFIT organization dedicated to supporting various educational programs for all students at Neil Armstrong Elementary School. The programs are chosen by you, the parents, the NAAB board and the school’s teachers and principal.

Why donations & fundraising are so important...
With the current economic situation, everyone is feeling the effects and our schools are no exception. NAAB helps to fill the gap between what Neil Armstrong receives from state and federal sources and what we actually need to fund our educational programs. Over the years, many programs that parents consider essential have been cut and are no longer part of the state-mandated curriculum. Often, people believe these courses are "state programs" when, in fact, education funds like NAAB pay for them. This includes a high quality reading program and a full science program. Even the District believes we do not get enough funding for a truly well-rounded education and they provide us with some extra funds, but it’s still not enough.

How the money is spent...
The NAAB Board reviews the funding requests from the school then puts them to a parent vote. The PARENTS vote to decide where the money is spent. Below is how the parents voted to spend the money for the 2009/2010 school year:

School Enrichment:
NAAB supports the salaries for the following staff:
Computer Lab, Librarian, Science, Art, Reading Intervention/Bear Club, Para Professionals, Intervention Hours & Rainbow Room Program.

Classroom Enrichment/Support:
ALEKS Math Program
Grade Level Grants (extra funds to support teachers)
Science Program
Technology Program
Library Program
Teacher Stipends

Operating Expenses:
Administrative Expenses (Taxes, audit, bank/credit card fees, etc)
Office Support (Xerox)
Program promotion
Liability Insurance/Bonding
Contingency Fund
Fundraising

NAAB ensures that students are continuing to receive important educational programs in spite of the fact that state cannot provide the funds for them. And with our state budget now in a crisis facing millions of dollars in cuts to education, NAAB will soon be faced with supplementing expenses previously covered by our district budget – this is why now more than ever, we need your continued support.
